WHEREAS, the City of Rayne and Parish of Acadia has more than 375 licensed Amateur Radio operators who have demonstrated their value in public assistance by providing emergency radio communications; and

WHEREAS, these Amateur Radio operators donate these services free of charge to the City, Parish and State, in the interest of International Goodwill throughout the world;

WHEREAS, these Amateur Radio operators are on alert for any emergency, local or world-wide, and practice their communication skills during the American Radio Relay League's Field Day exercise: and

WHEREAS, this year's Amateur Radio Field Day will take place on June 22nd and 23rd, 2002 at the Rayne Civic Center;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, James J. Petitjean, Mayor of the City of Rayne, Louisiana, do herby proclaime the week of June 17th through 24th, 2002 as:

"AMATEUR RADIO WEEK"

in recognition of this important emergency preparedness exercise, and call upon all citizens to pay tribute to the American Radio operators of our Parish.
