Ed, WA5TNK
, Skywarn Coordinator
Assistant Emergency Coordinator for Lafayette Parish
Acadiana ARES Liaison to National Weather Service

MISSION STATEMENT

Trained Acadiana Skywarn weather spotters volunteer many hours each year to support the Skywarn program. We are responsible for providing severe weather information to and from parishes in and around Acadiana in cooperation with the National Weather Service offices in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Acadiana Area Skywarn group is responsible for the parishes of Lafayette, Acadia, Vermillion, St. Martin, Iberia, and St. Landry Parishes. We also welcome reports from surrounding parishes to get an idea of what is threatening our area.   Our reports are used by the NWS to obtain a trained eyewitness report of Severe Weather to improve public safety by providing more accurate weather watches and warnings.

During severe weather events, Acadiana Skywarn will be active on the 145.370 mhz, KF5VH repeater so that any reports of severe weather may be relayed to and from the National Weather Service.

Welcome To
The Acadiana Area  Skywarn Group

Acadiana Area Skywarn is an organization of severe weather spotters trained by the National Weather Service. Many of our Spotters are local amateur radio operators who make use of portable and mobile radios to report severe weather conditions to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, and to the Lafayette Emergency Operations Center.  We hope you find the information presented useful.
